What is a homeschool co-op?

A homeschool co-op is a group of homeschooling parents who cooperatively teach each other’s children to provide educational and social activities.  Each parent teaches one class and assists with another, so the work is divided evenly and students receive different classes on a variety of topics. It should go without saying, but do not join a co-op without planning to contribute. Many people feel they have no skills but this is not true! You have interests and the internet is at your fingertips, and a library may contain all the teaching materials you need. Think of something you’d like to teach your child, like poetry, but never find the time for and go for it! There are many homeschool co-op idea lists such as these:

There are currently three Christian based co-ops in Windsor-Essex. If you wish to join a co-op, please send an email to introduce your family and any classes you could teach, and for faith based co-ops share your beliefs to see if you would be a good fit. You must have at least one child in Grade 1-12 to apply. Kindergarten is optional in Ontario so these classes are for younger siblings of students. Space is limited so apply early. Registration does not guarantee your application will be accepted.
